AnchorPoint Children’s Crisis Residence Program to Launch in Poughkeepsie
Public Invited to Learn More about New Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie Facility

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting children in psychiatric crises, the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the well-being of children and families, is excited to announce the upcoming launch of AnchorPoint, a Children’s Crisis Residence Program. The facility, located at 316 Violet Avenue in Hyde Park, NY, is set to open in late spring or early summer. AnchorPoint will be the first and only Children’s Crisis Residence Program in the region.

AnchorPoint aims to provide round-the-clock support to youth between the ages of 7 and 21 who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis. This vital program will assist young individuals in transitioning back into their homes or community-based services with necessary resources and support. In addition to intensive crisis care and treatment, the program will work closely with families and caregivers to ensure the youth’s success.

Youth may require this level of care if they have been diverted from inpatient hospitalization or have received care from other emergency services. Additionally, children in the community who have required mobile crisis intervention or other local behavioral health services may benefit from support through AnchorPoint, until they are able to return home or to the community.

AnchorPoint is not just a crisis residence, it’s a pathway to healing and recovery for children in our community,” said Walter J. Joseph, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie. “Through this program, we are creating a bridge for children to return to their lives equipped with tools they need to thrive and avoid future crises.”

About the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie
On January 21, 1847, a group of Poughkeepsie women called the Female Guardian Society met to form the Poughkeepsie Orphan House and Home of the Friendless to care for the poor, abandoned, and neglected in their communities, most especially the children. They believed that all children deserve a nurturing and caring environment. More than 178 years later, their work continues.

Today, the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie provides a full range of Community Based Services and Residential Services giving hope and healing to at-risk children throughout New York State. The Home is licensed by the New York State Office of Children & Family Services, the New York State Office of Mental Health, and the New York State Department of Health. The Children’s Home is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for its exemplary adherence to human welfare agency guidelines. In fiscal year 2024, the Home served approximately 1,791 children and their families.
