County Players, one of the longest-running community theatre companies in the area is proud to present the classic musical comedy “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and show opens Friday, May 5, 2023, and will run through 21. Directed by David J. Ringwood performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 & 20 at 8pm, with matinees at 2pm on Sundays, May 14 & 21, and Saturday, May 20. Performances are held at the County Players Falls Theatre, 2681 W. Main Street in the Village of Wappingers Fall.
Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical comedy, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” is a story with shenanigans, hijinks, and tomfoolery as a lowly servant endeavors to scheme his way to freedom in this antic romp through Rome with desperate lovers, scheming neighbors, and scandalous secrets behind every toga. The plot twists with cases of mistaken identity, slamming doors, and a showgirl or two. This joyous romp of a musical will have you dancing in the aisles with the infectious energy of slapstick and vaudeville!
The production features talented performers from across the region: Connie Boden, Mike Boden, Andrea Buergers, Philip Corso, Elizabeth Crew, Lisa Delia, Emma Hempel, Karen Hoben, John Leinung, Ethan Maslyn, Mark Moody, Glen Morrice, Emily Schaffer, Kate Schaffer, Laura Seaman, Eero Vaitkus, Chris Vallone, Bob Williams, and Robert Yarnall. Of this production director Ringwood says, ”We had been in rehearsal in 2020 and forced to “paused” due to COVID-19, so after the recent challenging years it’s exciting to finally bring this show to stage, and offer a break from everyday concerns and enjoy an evening of classic musical theatre and some silliness, fun, and laughter."
