Career Action Center Launches the Youth Entrepreneur Program

The Career Action Center is proud to present our newly launched Youth Entrepreneur Program (YEP). In collaboration with the City of Poughkeepsie’s Youth Activities and Opportunity Grant Program, the Youth Entrepreneur Program is designed to provide local area youth with foundational knowledge and essential leadership skills needed to develop original business ventures within their local community in preparation for today’s workforce.

Working collaboratively within their own teams, YEP Students will receive individual guidance and support from both volunteer mentors and local business leaders to successfully launch and sustain original business ideas throughout the year. Students will then deliver a product to be sold at at their very own Poughkeepsie High School store and at local community and Chamber Foundation events. This free pilot program will officially begin on July 10^th and run through December. Students attending Poughkeepsie High School at any grade level are strongly encouraged to apply. As the academic year draws to a close, CAC will be hosting a fun recognition event to celebrate students who have successfully completed an internship, job shadow, and have met their educational goals within the Mentorship Program. With CAC’s new formed collaborations, including Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, Mid-Hudson Works, and Nuvance Health, the Mentorship Program was able to provide over 25 students with valuable and diverse work experiences in the healthcare, culinary arts, nonprofit, and trades sectors.
