The Career Action Center is up and running for the new school year. The CAC welcomed back previous group of students as well as the new class of 2026. The program has started to build connections with youth and staff as we gradually increase momentum for the upcoming months.
At the start of the school year, we were able to give back to our community by collaborating with Just-A- Buck for Poughkeepsie High School’s Back to School Bash event. We supplied youth from all ages with school supplies and helped prepare them for the start of the upcoming year. We were also able to share our resources with the community by attending Poughkeepsie High School and Poughkeepsie Middle School’s open houses. Both parents and students were grateful for the services we provide to youth.
Our mentorship program also kicked off geared towards juniors and seniors to assist them with their Career and Educational Pathways. This leads youth to their Individualized Student Success Plan (ISSP). The ISSP will allow students to gain both insights into jobs of their interest while also maintaining their educational goals to graduate and receive their high school diploma. These pathways have various components such as life skills, social emotional needs, building community connections, as well as providing resources and guidance for college and scholarship opportunities. This has attracted many juniors who are enjoying the process of identifying their goals as well as gaining access into the work field.
The Career Action Center will continue its focus on introducing various career fields to students not only within our drop-in centers but also to classrooms. This will give various opportunities to students who are interested in certain career fields and provide them with job readiness skills, resources, and access to reaching those future goals.
