CAC Mentor Gives Back

The Career Action Center (CAC) continues to provide career and employment support to the youth at Poughkeepsie High School. The CAC has been serving the City of Poughkeepsie youth since its inception in 2014. Through collaborations and partnerships, we have been able to provide internship, mentoring, and connections to local employers.
 
An integral part of what makes our program successful is the amazing staff that is passionate to work with our youth and community. We are excited to introduce our new addition to the CAC, Consuela Edwards. Consuela is a 2014 Alumni of Poughkeepsie High School. Consuela has a bachelor’s in sociology from SUNY New Paltz. “I am currently in the education field because there were so many individuals along the way that helped me to be where I am now. In return, I would love to extend that same encouragement and support to someone else. It feels nostalgic to be back at Poughkeepsie High School. I had a lot of great memories and experiences that nurtured me into who I am today. I can definitely say it feels good to be home again.” 
 
Consuela’s role is crucial to the success of our youth. As the CAC Mentor, she will be helping our youth to navigate the often confusing waters of the world of professionalism. Through the creation of resumes, cover letters, and mock interviews, youth will be able to have a safe space to learn the soft skills necessary to apply for employment. Through assessments and exposure to community guest speakers, youth will begin to explore a variety of careers that they often do not think about. This month, she will be leading a black history month project with our STEM classes that will focus on highlighting African American innovators and leaders who made an impact in the STEM field.
