Eleanor Roosevelt! What an extraordinary role model she was! A First Lady who became one of the greatest global leaders of the 20th century.
In a special afternoon event, WLA members will have an opportunity to learn more about this remarkable woman and her unprecedented and tireless efforts to advance civil rights, women’s rights, and human rights in general.
This collaboration with the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill will include a tour of her treasured Val-Kill retreat, a screening of “Close to Home,” and a look at the permanent exhibit, “Eleanor Roosevelt and Val-Kill: Emergence of a Political Leader.”
Following the tour, a panel discussion – Teaching Our Daughters to be Leaders – will be held at ERVK’s Conference Center. Graduates of the Eleanor Roosevelt Center’s Girls’ Leadership Worldwide program will lead the discussion.Girls’ Leadership Worldwide, is a 9-day residential summer program for girls age 14-16. They come to ERVK each summer from all over the world to learn leadership as practiced by Mrs. Roosevelt, find their voices and to learn how to use those voices to make a difference in their own lives, their communities and the world. Light refreshments will be served.
