  • Youth Leadership Day of Service 2023

As members of the Youth Leadership class of 2023, we are pleased to announce our upcoming Youth Leadership Day of Service, a project led and organized by the students in the Chamber Foundation’s Youth Leadership program which dedicates an entire day to giving back to the local community.

The Youth Leadership Program is a hands-on course provided by The Chamber Foundation for students in grades 10 and 11 to learn and develop skills needed to succeed in their future careers and be more comfortable and productive in leadership positions. We are excited to announce that this year for our Day of Service we are partnering with the Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County.

As you may know, Habitat for Humanity is an amazing worldwide nonprofit organization that provides sustainable affordable housing and gives families access to life changing resources that would improve their living conditions. Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to help provide shelter for people in all communities and walks of life. In fact Habitat for Humanity provides work for over 1700 volunteers and is supported by over 50,000 donors. You can find more information about donating and volunteering at  https://www.habitat.org/volunteer/near-you/find-your-local-habitat .

This year’s Youth Leadership Day of Service will take place Saturday, April 22 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The cohort of 34 Youth Leadership Track 1 students (grades 10 and 12) will meet at Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore facility branch at 1830 South Rd Suite 109,  Wappingers Falls to complete this project. The Restore is a nonprofit home improvement store that sells new and used appliances, furniture, and home improvement materials well below retail price. All the goods are sourced from local donations.

Our Youth Leadership Day of Service falls on Earth Day this year so we are focusing our project on conservation and reuse. At the facility the construction director of our local Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore workers will show us how recyclables can be repurposed to make materials for new homes. In addition to raw materials, we will be restoring old used tools that can be used for home future home remodeling and improvement.
