New Twice-Weekly Direct Service via Allegiant Air Begins in November in Time for Winter Escapes for Northeast Travelers

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced a new twice-weekly year-round service at New York Stewart International Airport (SWF) via Allegiant Air’s new route to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. This new Allegiant service is the fifth new service at New York Stewart announced so far this year.

The direct flights will operate on Fridays and Mondays starting on November 15. Allegiant’s new service adds to New York Stewart’s ease of access to warm-weather destinations that also include other recently announced service to a Florida beach destination that will also begin in November.

“New York Stewart has become an excellent choice within our region for those seeking well-priced winter getaways without the need for long flights or leaving the country,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “We are pleased to welcome additional travelers at New York Stewart that will provide more visitors and economic opportunities for the Hudson Valley region.”

“When winter arrives, travelers in the region will be happy to have more warm-weather getaway options at New York Stewart thanks to this new route on Allegiant Air,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “We encourage travelers to discover the ease of travel through New York Stewart as we work to add even more exciting destinations around the country and the world.”

"The addition of new routes is a testament to the success of our existing service in these communities," said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief revenue officer. “Our network planning team is responsive to consumer demand, constantly looking for opportunities to enhance the leisure travel experience. The new service kicks off just in time to plan warm winter getaways to sought-after coastal destinations.”

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state agency that builds, operates, and maintains many of the most important transportation and trade infrastructure assets in the country. For over a century, the agency’s network of major airports; critical bridges, tunnels and bus terminals; a commuter rail line; and the busiest seaport on the East Coast has been among the most vital in the country – transporting hundreds of millions of people and moving essential goods into and out of the region. The Port Authority also owns and manages the 16-acre World Trade Center campus, which today welcomes tens of thousands of office workers and millions of annual visitors. The agency’s historic $37 billion 10-year capital plan includes unprecedented transformation of the region’s three major airports – LaGuardia, Newark Liberty and JFK – as well as an array of other new and upgraded assets, including the $2 billion renovation of the 90-year-old George Washington Bridge. The Port Authority’s annual budget of $9.3 billion includes no tax revenue from either the states of New York or New Jersey or from the City of New York. The agency raises the necessary funds for the improvement, construction or acquisition of its facilities primarily on its own credit.
